This is a step by step guide to genital shaving. If you have longer
pubic hairs they need to be trimmed first. You can trim with clippers
or scissors but electric clippers are definitely best. Not to mention a
lot more fun... bzzzzzzzzzzzz. Take a long, warm bath or shower
beforehand. Or you can apply hot steaming towels to the area to
soften the hair. I personally like the bath myself. Heat
and moisture will soften the hair and make shaving easier and more
effective. Before applying your shaving cream, rinse the area with cool
water, it won't effect the pre-softening of the hairs you've done, but
it will tighten the skin below it, resulting in less likely irritation.
Apply shaving cream, gel, or shaving oil, a few minutes before
shaving in order to soften hairs further. Consider using a quality
shaving cream that has additional conditioners or aloe vera
extract. Some people are allergic and react to some shaving creams and
the pubic region has heightened sensitivity. If you are prone to skin
allergies use a hypoallergenic shaving cream. There are also shaving
oils which some people find more effective. Be sure to use a
sharp bladed razor. If you are using a non-specialty razor, Mach3 or an
equivalent high end razor is definitely recommended. You might try
using two new blades if you are shaving a large area. Even better, if
you intent to be a regular shaver is to invest in a shaver that is
specifically meant for genital hair removal - I've added a link below
to one product set that I highly recommend. When shaving, If you are
using a traditional razor try not to go over the same area no more than
twice to reduce skin irritation. On the first stroke, go "with the
grain" to remove most of the hair, then go "against the grain" for a
smoother, closer shave (If you are very sensitive, you may not wish to
shave this close). If you are using a specialty razor, then you won't
need to be as concerned with causing skin irritation. Always clean the
shaved area afterwards with a mild soap and water to reduce the risk of
infection. Ideally, give the area a second cleansing using cotton balls
and rubbing alcohol or another disinfectant. Many people find applying
powder or oil right after the shave, and afterwards applying it daily
after shaving, helps to keep the shaved area irritation-free. (Everyone
is different, some people react badly to the powder or oil) If
you have sensitive skin, and your skin becomes irritated easily you may
want to wait as long as possible between shavings to reduce skin
irritation. (or invest in a specialty razor for genital shaving). Be
aware, that growing your hair back out after shaving your pubic area is
usually an uncomfortable process.. if this is a concern for you you may
wish to consider closely trimming your hair instead. Or buying a razor
specifically for genital shaving that can be used more frequently. This
system is for shaving with a traditional razor. If you have a
body bare personal shaver specifically for genital shaving, the steps
are different and can be found here How to shave with a genital
shaver.
If
you've tried shaving with a regular razor, and have
experienced any skin irritation, ingrown hairs, red
bumps, or discomfort, you may want to invest in a
Personal Shaver by Body Bare.
